Dear Santa

I know I’m a little early, but honestly, I can’t see how it’s going to get better than this in 2006! Santa, Apple have released an upgrade to their Macbook Pro line. And I would like one of these bad boys very much. They’ve got Intel Core 2 Duo chips, built-in iSight cameras, Firewire 400 and Firewire 800, and lots, lots more. So I thought I’d get my request in early.

Thank you very much.

Ben Poole (aged 34 and 1 month).

  1. Oooh.. that would be nice. My TOP OF THE LINE Powerbook G4 is only 16 months old and it's so far behind in performance compared to these beasties that it makes baby Jesus cry. Still, it's not like I can't suddenly do all the things I'm already doing with it. It would just be nice to do them about 100x faster :)Marcin Szczepanski#
  2. Dear Santa,

    Ditto!Colin Williams#
  3. Some un-boxing porn! Poole#
  4. Same old, same old. Looks like the old MacBook Pro, which looks like the Powerbook. Which looks like the old Powerbook.

But OK, the same holds true for porn. ;-)Volker Weber#
  5. Indulge me Volker; I last unpacked a brand new Mac in 1998 :-)

As for porn, yes, same old, same old. But aficionados still like looking at it. Or so I'm told. *cough*Ben Poole#
  6. Hi Ben, add me to the list. Maybe we can get a group discount?

I have been waiting for the 64bit dual cores to arrive. I think my upgrade will come in April or so when Leopard, the next version of OS X, arrives.

Same old, same old? I like that! I have a G4 powerbook from 2004 which I use for about 10 hours a day every day and it still looks like the day I bought it (except for a few small scratches fingerprints and spills!).Brendon Upson#
  7. Ben,
The previous MacBook Pro has firewire 400 and 800. The new items is that it comes with 2 GB RAM and can support up to 3 GB RAM. It has 40 GB more diskspace and 64-bit processor running at 2.33 GHz.

As I have the older MacBook Pro (from May 2006), I am debating if I could creatively get this newer one.Patrick Corey#
  8. Good luck Patrick ;-) With regards Firewire, I believe the 800-speed port is new in that it is standard across all models (along with the Superdrive): certainly Apple are touting it as an improvement over the original Macbook Pros anyway.

It will be interesting to see how the new revisions pan out over the original versions.Ben Poole#
  9. I hope the duocore does more for MacOS than Windows XP. I have been deeply disappointed with it - I have a new thinkpad X60 with a gig of RAM and a new intel duocore chip. and XP boots slowly, and runs no better than my four year old machine. pathetic really. james governor#
