Blimey, I bought a book through Amazon!

Well, there's always a first time. I fancied getting this book, but it's nearly ten years old and out of print. So I ordered it from the "market place" at Amazon anyway, giving a maximum price I was prepared to pay. I also gave 'em just a month to find it, so I was pretty surprised when I was emailed about two hours later. They've found it, and it should be with me in the next few days. "Nifty" thought I!

So at least I might become a programmer.

  1. (I'm trawling your blog archives… ;-)

I stumbled across Writing Solid Code and Steve McConnell's Code Complete at a flea market early in my coding career, and it was a chance encounter I'm eternally grateful for. I'm sure it would've taken me a lot longer to get anywhere useful if it wasn't for the mindset that both of these books encourage.

I still haul 'em out and re-read the occasional chapters now and then… thanks for a trip down memory lane ;-)Colin Pretorius#
  2. It's a very good book. It's on the shelf right next to The Pragmatic Programmer and Effective Java. These are all books I don't pretend to know inside out, but they're mines of information, easy to read, and above all, useful now, and going forward!Ben Poole#
